I’m Calum.

I started ùrlar because small businesses, tradespeople and not-for-profits kept being sold websites that made more work, not less: a ticket for every change, hosting that renewed at triple the price, and a developer who stopped answering.

When you have a problem, I have an urge to figure out a solution to it. Sometimes that’s a website, sometimes it’s a small tool that saves someone an hour a day, and sometimes it’s a phone call where I tell you that you don’t need to buy anything.

I’ve spent a long time building and running websites and online stores, and the business systems around them: stock, orders, quoting and shipping, the parts that decide whether a business runs smoothly. Every system has its limitations, and I love finding ways around them. That’s what I bring to a build, and it’s why I care so much about what happens after launch.

I’m a human too. When I’m not at the screen I’m out in the garden, in the kitchen or attempting a DIY job around the house, and I enjoy the problem-solving in all of it.

ùrlar is the studio. We run our own hosting, monitoring and app, so there’s no retainer to sign and no minimum hours. I’m the developer, and we’ll be working together.

scoped before it’s built

Before anything starts, we work out what it’s for. You’ll get that in writing, with a price, before any work begins.

Every page should make it obvious what to do next. If a visitor has to work it out, it isn’t finished.
